PRIOR LEARNING ASSESSMENT · CONTRACT BASIS

Portfolio assessment scales by assessor hours only. When volume outruns capacity, that is where this engagement begins.

I conduct portfolio assessment on a contract basis, returning written determinations your faculty of record can act on within five business days of receipt. Engagement scales strictly to your actual submission volume. No retainers, no minimums.

The Engagement

When submissions surge, portfolios come to me on a per-assessment basis, so review turnarounds hold without expanding faculty load.

  1. You supply the course learning outcomes and the credit criteria already in force. I do not propose standards; I apply yours.
  2. Portfolios are transmitted by whatever secure method your institution already uses.
  3. Each portfolio receives a written determination: evidence assessed against each outcome, a recommendation, and the supporting rationale in clear, defensible language ready for committee review.
  4. Determinations return within five business days of receipt. Contested or borderline cases are flagged rather than decided in isolation. Expedited handling can be arranged as the calendar permits.

Rates

  • No monthly retainers, minimum volume commitments, or setup fees. Costs accrue strictly per completed evaluation.
Single-course portfolio One course equivalency, or a single determination against any standard. Written determination returned. $250
Multi-course portfolio Two or more course equivalencies assessed from a single portfolio, each treated separately. $375
Assessment with clarifying interview A scheduled conversation with the learner to clarify evidence already submitted, where your process calls for one. Elected by the institution at agreement, not case by case. Interviews do not elicit new evidence; that would place an assessor in the role of advisor, mentor, or coach, and compromise the assessment. $375
Block of ten Ten single assessments, drawn as they arise within twelve months. One purchase order, no per-instance approval. $2,200

The block exists because portfolio volume arrives unevenly. It gives a department standing capacity for the term without a separate authorization each time a request appears.

Multi-course portfolios drawn against a block take one assessment from the block plus a $125 supplement, invoiced in aggregate at the close of the term rather than per instance. Where a portfolio's evidence appears to exceed what was petitioned for, this is noted for the institution's consideration rather than assessed. Any further course equivalency follows your own petition process.

Rates current for 2026–2027 academic year. W-9 and certificate of insurance provided on engagement.

If portfolio volume is outrunning your assessor capacity this term, a short conversation will establish whether this is a fit. A specimen determination is available on request: a representative composite, carrying no learner or institutional detail, showing how evidence is reasoned to a recommendation your committee can defend.
